To protect children from dengue, it is important to protect them from Aedes mosquito bites. When dengue is severe, children die sooner than adults.
Dengue in Children: The rainy season has not yet arrived but the menace of mosquitoes is at its peak. Be it city or village, mosquitoes are now biting people day and night. In such a situation, if you are not cautious about your children and are not taking mosquito bites seriously, then it can cause huge losses. According to health experts, children are not as much at risk from dengue as are adults. Once dengue occurs, the risk of it being fatal and causing death in children is many times higher than that of adults.
Children are most at risk at this age
Children aged 5-10 years are most likely to get dengue fever and dengue can be fatal. According to a study published in Science Direct, more than 80 percent of children suffering from dengue are below 9 years of age. In these too, the number of boys has been seen to be more than that of girls. Another research shows that globally, deaths due to dengue are more in children below 5 years of age.
Many research and studies show that the number of deaths due to dengue in children is 4 times higher than that of adults. According to WHO, the fatality of dengue is around 5 percent of the total cases. However, if treatment is provided at the right time, it can be brought down to 1 percent. Of these deaths due to dengue, 44 percent are due to two serious dengue infections. The first is dengue hemorrhagic fever and the second is dengue shock syndrome.
Dengue again more dangerous in children
If dengue becomes severe, children are at risk of organ failure.
He says that the second reason is that dengue has its own cycle. In about four to five years it becomes more deadly or severe. If we look at the figures of the last few years, according to a report of the Central Government, in the year 2017, 1,88,401 cases of dengue were reported, out of which 325 people died. After that the number of dengue patients had gone down considerably. In such a situation, after 2017, dengue can once again show its effect in 2021 as per its cycle.

Why is dengue dangerous in children?
Dr. Satpal, retired public health expert and nodal officer in MCD Delhi, says that children are more at risk of dengue fever than adults. Most deaths in children occur due to dengue shock syndrome. The incidence of organ failure in children increases due to shock. Whereas dengue hemorrhagic syndrome is fatal in older people. Bleeding occurs in this, although adults have more ability to bear it than children. There are many reasons for it being fatal in children.
1. Low immunity in children
The immunity of children is less than that of adults. In North India, children are far behind in terms of nutritious food, hence due to lack of strength in the body, children are unable to bear dengue fever.
2. Dengue is diagnosed late in children
The first symptom of dengue is fever. Children are not able to fully explain their illness, due to which they do not get proper treatment for several days or weeks and they become seriously ill due to dengue. Children’s platelets fall.
3. Easy prey for mosquitoes
If children roam in the open while playing or live in homes, they are not able to remain alert about mosquitoes. Children are easy prey to mosquitoes and get infected with dengue.
4. Lack of knowledge about bleeding
Dengue causes internal bleeding, which can occur through the nose, ears or stool. This is a very dangerous level of dengue but children do not pay attention to it and are not even able to tell, due to which the situation becomes serious.
5. Delay in dengue investigation
Dengue can be detected only if the test is done about 4-5 days after the diagnosis. In such a situation, if there is a delay in identifying the true disease in the test report, the fatality increases.
