Neemuch, The temple of Maa Antarimata is located in the village of Antari elderly, situated on the banks of the Revathi river, about 60 km from Neemuch district headquarters of Madhya Pradesh. This temple is said to be more than 700 years old.
This temple was founded by Rao Sevaji Khemaji in 1329 AD. Mother Antarimata Chandravat is a Kuldevi of Rajputs and devotees from far and wide come to see the mother.
This temple has a unique tradition, in which devotees offer their tongue to the mother when their wishes are fulfilled. Three devotees have offered their tongue even in this Navratri.
The temple priest Awadhesh Singh Rathore told in a conversation with that the temple was built in 1329 AD and the tradition here has been going on for hundreds of years.
He says, “Devotees here bring their wishes. When their vow is fulfilled, they cut their tongue with their hands on the first day of Navratri and offer their tongue to the mother. The devotees stay in the temple for nine days and their tongue comes back again on the day of Navami. After this, the devotees return home.”
According to the priest, every year hundreds of people offer tongues here and so far thousands of devotees have done so. This time too, two women and a man have offered their tongue and they are still in the temple.
In this Chaitra Navratri, three devotees offered their tongue to the mother on completion of their vow. These include the young lamp of Dhangar Samaj of Neemuch, a woman from Neemuch and a woman from Semalia Kalukheda village in Ratlam district.
Jaswant Dhangar of Neemuch said, “My nephew Deepak has offered her tongue to the mother on the first day of Navratri. By the grace of the mother, her tongue will come back in nine days. It is the glory here that people offer their tongue when the vow is fulfilled and she comes back.”
Jaswant further said that this time two women have done the same with his nephew.
Himmat Singh Chandrawat, who came from Semalia Kalukheda village in Ratlam district, shared his mother’s experience, saying, “We had sought a vow from mother here, which is fulfilled. My mother has also offered her tongue. Mother has a lot of grace, whoever asks for here is fulfilled.” Himmat Singh said that his mother will also stay in the temple for nine days and by the grace of mother, his tongue will return.
It is believed that two footprints of mother’s vehicle are present here. One footprint is inside the temple, while the other is inscribed on the rock of Hanuman Ghat in the south direction.
Devotees who come here say that mother fulfills everyone’s wishes. A crowd of devotees throngs here during Sharadiya and Chaitra Navratri. In this ritual lasting nine days, devotees live in the court of Mother and give evidence of their devotion. The fame of this temple of Maa Antarimata is not limited to Madhya Pradesh. Devotees come here from different states of the country.
