The first Bharatiya Janata Party government is going to be formed in Odisha. The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of the state will now be held on Wednesday, June 12 instead of Monday, June 10. Party leaders Jatin Mohanty and Vijaypal Singh Tomar have confirmed this. Mohanty said that the program has been postponed due to the busy schedule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Narendra Modi will take oath as Prime Minister for the third time on Sunday and will meet party MPs the next day. Apart from this, the first legislative party meeting of the newly elected members has now been scheduled for June 11.
During the election campaign, Narendra Modi had said that the first BJP government of Odisha will be sworn in on June 10. BJP state president Manmohan Samal also confirmed this on Saturday. For this, a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party was called on Monday and the Chief Minister was to be elected in this meeting.
But party sources say that the swearing-in ceremony has been postponed as the name of the Chief Minister has not been decided yet in the state. There is still mystery about the new Chief Minister. Earlier, the name of senior leader Dharmendra Pradhan was at the top. But now Dharmendra Pradhan is joining Modi Government 3.0, so his name has been removed from the list for the post of Chief Minister.
The BJP central leadership is yet to take a final decision on the name of any leader for the post of Chief Minister, but the party’s Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal said that we will have to wait for two more days to get a clear picture.
According to sources, senior BJP leader and newly elected MLA Suresh Pujari reached New Delhi, leading to speculation that he could be one of the main contenders for the top post.
Suresh Pujari was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bargarh in the 2019 elections. He recently won the election from Brajrajnagar assembly constituency. His supporters believe that he has been called to New Delhi for discussions with central leaders.
The BJP won a comfortable majority by winning 78 seats in the 147-member assembly. The party had contested the elections under the leadership of Modi without declaring a chief ministerial candidate. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Biju Janata Dal-BJD leader V.K. Pandian has announced to quit active politics after the party’s defeat in the Odisha elections.
