Dantewada. Annual fair Mandai and Dholkal festival were celebrated with enthusiasm as per tradition at Farspala Parasum Karsad in the district. On this occasion, a large number of villagers were present in Parsam Karsad of Devi-Farspal, in the courtyard of the pargana Devi Gujje Dokri and Chikhladei Mata temple.
As per tradition, this event is held on the next Tuesday immediately after the fair held in Ghotpal. In the fair, people were seen trembling with drums in their hands. Along with the big dhol, the small sized dhol Dev Baja was accompanied by the dancers dancing in a circular circle. The distinctive beat of the Dev Baja playing in the group hit the remote hills creating an even more melodious sound.
In this fair, villagers from far-flung villages had also reached with dhol. Symbols of deities were also brought from the remote villages of the district like Bengpal, Gampur, Madkamiras, Alanar, Metapal, Kondapal, Tikanpal, Dugoli, Dhurli, Nerli, Kalertong. Apart from this, on the call of Goddess Gujje Dokri, villagers from far-flung villages like Paralgatta, Nammi Galgam of Bijapur district had brought the symbols of deities along with them, who kept on playing the drums in different groups at the fair site. Along with the men playing the drums, women also participated in this dance with great enthusiasm.

In the above organized fair, people from all over the district took part with deities, drums echoed, the enthusiasm shown in the villagers, children and women kept trembling on the beats, people were seen trembling with drums in their hands in the Dantewada fair. A large number of villagers had reached the fair. According to the tribal tradition, Gujje is Dokri Devi of 12 gotras. Gujje Dokri is considered to be the goddess of the 12 tribes of the tribals. According to Manjhi, the priest of the goddess, according to the local tribal tradition, the 12 Mandas i.e. Madkam, Ichham, Kadiyam, Kalmum, Punem, Kandam, Tati, Bhogam, Telam, Kadti, Midiyam, are considered to be of the same gotra group of Rengas. Viraji Gujje Dokri in Faraspal is the presiding deity of all these. That’s why people participate in the event held once a year at this place.
Before the fair, Goddess Jagran is performed by playing drums every night for a fortnight in the courtyard of Gujje Dokri Devi. After this, Karsad i.e. big fair is organized on Tuesday. This time to give a grand look to the fair, the organizing committee also organized folk dance competition for tribal folk dancers and cultural presentation of Chhattisgarhi Folk Kala Manch.

Along with Parsum Karsad, the Dholkal festival is also celebrated along with the Farspal fair. Here Sumadra is situated at an altitude of three thousand feet. On the top of this mountain range, a subtle statue of Ganesha is installed. According to archeology, this beautiful Ganesh idol dates back to the 11th century. Dholkal is now being developed as a tourist spot by the district administration, along with Parsum Karsad of Faraspal, now the Dholkal festival is also celebrated with enthusiasm on this day.
