New Delhi. Is Pakistan’s occupation of Kartarpur the fault of Congress? Did Kartarpur slip out of India’s hands due to a mistake of Indira Gandhi in 1971? This question is because yesterday PM Narendra Modi said something big about Kartarpur Sahib, the center of Sikh faith. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was holding an election rally in Patiala yesterday in favor of party candidate former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s wife Preneet Kaur. During this, he said that if he had been in power in 1971, Kartarpur would never have become a part of Pakistan. Kartarpur Sahib is important because Guru Nanak Dev ji spent the last 16 years of his life here.
In December 1971, there was a 13 day war with Pakistan in which Pakistan had to face defeat. 93 thousand Pakistani soldiers surrendered. Pakistani General Niazi had signed the surrender letter. Pakistani soldiers were released with the birth of Bangladesh. In 1972, Pakistan signed the Shimla Agreement with Indira Gandhi. But there was no talk about Kartarpur Sahib in it.
Whereas after the partition in 1947, Kartarpur became a part of Pakistan. It could have been acquired. Before November 2019, Kartarpur was visible through binoculars. In 2019, India and Pakistan agreed to open the corridor. An agreement was reached on the movement of 5000 devotees daily without visa. Kartarpur Sahib is connected to the sentiments of the Sikh community. Even now, a large section of the Sikh community wants that the center of their faith, Kartarpur, should have been in India. This was mentioned by PM Modi.

Defense experts believe that this was the time when India made a diplomatic mistake. In this agreement, India did not put any condition that would weaken Pakistan. PM Modi mentioned this and said that if the then Congress government had put pressure on Pakistan after winning the 1971 war, Kartarpur Sahib would have been a part of India. In the event of surrender, Pakistan had no other option but to accept the condition.
