New Delhi. There has always been talk about the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni). Recently, CSK made Ruturaj Gaikwad the captain in his place. Sachin Tendulkar has meanwhile given a big statement. Sachin says that in the year 2007, I had recommended to the BCCI President that he should make Mahendra Singh Dhoni the captain of the Indian team.
Sachin Tendulkar said during a conversation on Geo Cinema, “Sharad Pawar was the President of BCCI in the year 2007. He asked me to take charge of the Indian team. My body was not well. I don’t think the team should have a captain who repeatedly goes to the dressing room to get his ankle treated and shows his shoulders. This is not a good thing for our team. My view was good about Mahendra Singh Dhoni.”
A week ago, he was taken off the field on a stretcher, now became ‘Player of the Match’ in the very first match of IPL.
Tendulkar further said, “I used to field in slip. During this period, I used to talk to Dhoni a lot. I used to ask him what did you just do? His answer was quite balanced. He used to give very correct answers. His answers were spontaneous and the way he was aware of what was happening on the field. That was amazing. At the same time I had told the BCCI President that he has leadership quality. He can be put forward for captaincy.”
Dhoni won 2 World Cups
Team India had captured the ODI World Cup title for the second time by defeating Sri Lanka (India vs Sri Lanka) at Wankhede Stadium, almost 11 years ago on 2 April 2011. With this, Dhoni became the first Indian captain to win 2 World Cups (World Cup 2011). Before this, he had led India to the T20 World Cup title in 2007.
