Ola Electric launched its electric scooters S1 and S1 Pro across the country on 15 August 2021. A month after this, the company had also started pre-booking of both the electric scooters. The company has claimed that after starting the pre-bookings, the company had received around 90,000 bookings on the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters, which is a big deal. But if we talk about the sales figures of these electric scooters in December 2021, then it is very disappointing.
Only 111 electric scooters were sold
According to a report by Fada (Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations), Ola Electric’s S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters sold only 111 units in December 2021, which is a disappointing figure. The sale of these electric scooters has started on the 15th of last month only. FADA President Vinkesh Gulati also shared the report of Ola Electric’s sales figures of S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters in December 2021 in a tweet posted on his official Twitter account.

Name big, philosophy small?
Ola Electric Company has been claiming from time to time about high demand for both its electric scooters. In addition, the company’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal also tweets on his Twitter account from time to time about the production and high demand for the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters. In such a situation, the saying ‘Naam Bade, Darshan Chhote’ comes to mind after the company was able to sell only 111 units of S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters in December 2021.

What could be the reason for the disappointing performance in sales?
FADA President Vinkesh Gulati in his tweet has indicated Ola Electric’s ‘direct to customer’ delivery pattern of its electric scooters as a possible reason for the disappointing performance in sales. Along with this, Vinkesh has also raised the question of the company’s claims being media/startup hype.
