Do you get breathless even after running a little? Is this a sign of disease? Know from the doctor

Why We Feel Breathless: Running is considered beneficial for health, but many people complain of breathlessness while running. Breathlessness after running is a common thing, but some people get troubled by breathlessness even while walking. Not only this, many times people start having the problem of breathlessness even while climbing stairs. Now the question is when is breathlessness normal and when should it be considered a problem. If you start feeling breathless after a little running, is it a sign of any disease? Let’s know the truth about this from the doctor.

Dr Bhagwan Mantri, pulmonologist at Doctor Mantri Respiratory Clinic, Saket, New Delhi, told AnyTV Everyone feels breathless after running, but the person becomes normal within a few seconds. If breathlessness stops within a few seconds, then it is normal. However, if a person starts feeling breathless after running a little and remains troubled for several minutes, then it could be a problem related to lungs or heart. Yes, breathlessness indicates not only lung related diseases but also heart related diseases. Many types of tests are done to detect both of these.

Dr Bhagwan Mantri said that when a person has trouble breathing and has to face this problem repeatedly, then in this condition, pulmonary function test, chest X-ray or electrocardiography may be needed to find out the cause. Most people think that the problem of shortness of breath is related to the lungs, but it can also be due to some other disease. If a person does not have any chronic disease and he suddenly starts having problems of shortness of breath, then he should contact a doctor as soon as possible and get tested.

Pulmonologists believe that if someone has shortness of breath due to lungs, then it can be a sign of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or interstitial lung disease. Spirometry test is done to detect this. Lung disease can be detected many years before the disease occurs through spirometry test. All people should get this test done once in a year or two. The cost of this test is around 500 to 1000 rupees. If you have problem of shortness of breath, then you should get this test done after consulting a doctor.
