New Delhi. India’s population is expected to reach 152.2 crores by 2036. This information has been given in the ‘Women and Men in India 2023’ report of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. In February 2011, when the last national census was conducted, the country’s population was found to be 121,08,54,977. The ministry said on its ‘Women and Men in India 2023’ report, “The publication is a comprehensive and practical document that tries to bring out the status of men and women in India and provides data on various topics. Its disaggregated data also helps in understanding the inequalities that exist between different groups of men and women.”

According to the report, the sex ratio in India is expected to increase from 943 women per thousand men in 2011 to 952 women per 1000 men in 2036. The report highlights that the number of women in India’s population in 2036 is likely to be higher than the population of 2011, as reflected in the sex ratio. According to the report, India had 943 women per thousand men in 2011, which is expected to increase to 952 per thousand men by 2036, which shows a positive trend in gender equality.

According to the report, India’s population is expected to reach 152.2 crores by 2036, with the percentage of women increasing slightly to 48.8 percent from 48.5 percent in 2011. It said that the proportion of persons under the age of 15 is projected to decline from 2011 to 2036, possibly due to a decrease in fertility rate. In contrast, the proportion of population aged 60 years and above is forecast to increase significantly during this period.

It is evident that the age specific fertility rate (ASFR) in the age groups of 20-24 and 25-29 has declined from 135.4 and 166.0 to 113.6 and 139.6 respectively from 2016 to 2020. The ASFR for the age group of 35-39 years has increased from 32.7 to 35.6 for this period, which shows that after getting settled in life, women are thinking about expanding the family.
