How often replace kitchen scrubs: All of you must be cleaning your kitchen three to four times a day. You must be wiping the spice slabs, boxes, gas stove many times, but if you wash your utensils with the same scrub for months, then be alert. If you use the same dishwashing scrub, sponge for a month, then it can prove to be very harmful for your health. According to a news published in Indian Express, many researches have revealed that your kitchen scrubs and sponges contain a lot of bacteria. In this way, they are dirtier than toilet seats.
What kind of bacteria are there in kitchen scrub?
Let us tell you that if you keep using the same dishwashing scrub and sponge continuously, then bacteria grow in them, E. coli, fecal bacteria are found in large quantities in them. This happens because people do not change them frequently nor do they let them dry. They are wet all the time. Some people use the same scrub for two to three months, sometimes for 6 months. In such a situation, these bacteria can cause mild to severe intestinal and skin related problems.
When to replace kitchen scrubs and sponges
You should replace your kitchen scrubs every 2 to 3 weeks. If you don’t, you may be at increased risk of cross-contamination and gastrointestinal infections due to the spread of bacteria. Since these kitchen scrubs are constantly wet, small particles of food remain trapped in them, increasing the risk of spreading pathogens. These can spread to dishes, utensils and even surfaces. In such a situation, the chances of these pathogens accidentally entering your stomach through them also increases.
what to do
1. If you want to protect yourself from the outbreak of bacteria and pathogens present in kitchen scrubs and sponges, then throw away the sponge every 1-2 weeks and use a new one. Also, change the brush every 1 to 2 months.
2. Whenever you clean utensils, clean these thoroughly. Do not leave food particles stuck to them, wet or dirty. Clean them by putting them in hot soapy water. Also keep them in the sun to dry so that there is no moisture. Bacteria grow quickly due to being wet.
3. Dip the kitchen scrub in bleach solution for 5 minutes and then clean it. If you want, you can also run it in the oven for 1-2 minutes to eliminate bacteria. This can kill the bacteria.
4. When you have cleaned the utensils, do not leave them near the sink. They keep getting wet due to repeated watering. Keep them in a dry place, so that the growth of bacteria does not happen rapidly. Whenever you use a scrub, dry them thoroughly.
5. If you want, you can microwave wet sponges and scrubs for a minute. Also, if you have a dishwasher at home, you can put them in it as well so that harmful bacteria are eliminated.
6. If the scrubs have worn out or started smelling bad due to continuous use, it is better to throw them away. Start using new scrubs in their place.
