You will have to register on the e-filing site
To file income tax returns online, first time taxpayers have to register online. You have to register on the e-filing site. With this, you can use many tax related services of the portal. For this, you must have a valid and active PAN, valid mobile number and valid email ID.
How to register for e-filing on Income Tax Portal:
Step 1: Go to the e-filing portal homepage (https://www.incometax.gov.in/), click on Register.
Step 2: Enter your PAN under the “Register as a Taxpayer” option and click on Validate. If the PAN is already registered or is invalid, an error message will appear.
Step 3: On the Basic Details page, enter all the required information like your name, date of birth, gender (if applicable) and residential status and then click on Continue.
Step 4: Once your PAN is validated, individual taxpayers will see the Contact Details page. Enter your primary mobile number, email ID and address here. Now click on Continue.
Step 5: Two separate OTPs are sent to the primary mobile number and email ID provided. Enter the separate 6-digit OTPs received on the mobile number and email ID and click on Continue.
Step 6: Edit the details in the page if required and click on Confirm.
Step 7: On the Set Password page, set and confirm your password. Now click on Register.
Step 8: Once you are successfully registered, click Proceed to Login to start the login process.
Login to the e-filing portal and update your profile to access all the available services. You can now file your tax returns or access other tax-related services.
