Vishal Jha/Ghaziabad: Eyes are the most delicate part of our body, although it needs less care. It is the eyes which introduce us to the world. Eyes help us to see and examine the world. Many times, due to some reason our eyesight starts decreasing day by day. Decreasing eyesight with age is a common reason. But there are some diseases due to which our eyes are adversely affected. Glaucoma is one of these.
Director of Basu Eye Hospital, Dr. Mandeep Singh said that the disease of glaucoma is also called cataract or thief of eyes. This is an eye disease which gradually takes away a person’s vision. Due to this disease the optic nerve of the eyes gets damaged. Due to their damage, the brain stops receiving signals. Due to which visibility stops. When this disease becomes serious, it becomes impossible to restore eyesight.
Why does glaucoma occur?
Dr. Mandeep Singh said that glaucoma is caused by increased pressure on the eyes. It is also called intraocular pressure. Healthy eyes contain fluids. These fluids help protect the eyes from pressure. Therefore, liquid always keeps forming and then keeps coming out. This cycle continues like this. When the balance of this cycle gets disturbed, pressure begins to fall on the eyes. Many other reasons are also responsible for this. Like unhealthy diet, excessive use of mobile-laptop
How to protect yourself from glaucoma
Dr. Mandeep Singh told that this eye disease can occur any time in childhood or old age. Glaucoma usually has no obvious symptoms. Due to which sometimes it becomes difficult to identify it. The doctor checks the patient’s eye pressure, tests for blind spots and examines the inside of the eyes. Regular checkups help in detecting the early stages of glaucoma. Being under stress for a long time can harm the health of the eyes.
