Ranchi. Doctors of all government and private hospitals in Jharkhand went on strike on Saturday to protest against the suicide incident of gynecologist Dr. Archana Sharma in Dausa, Rajasthan. Doctors completely boycotted the OPD. Because of this, patients all over the state had to return without treatment.
However, the service of treatment of serious patients continued in the indoor and emergency of the hospitals. The doctors, who boycotted work on the call of Indian Medical Association Jharkhand unit and Jharkhand Health Service Association, demanded a high-level inquiry into the death of Archana Sharma and implementation of Medical Protection Act in the entire country including Jharkhand. Doctors in different districts of the state including Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Giridih also displayed their solidarity for this demand. Didn’t see a single patient. From RIMS of Ranchi to Sadar Hospital, a large number of patients had reached for treatment. But they were disappointed. Patients coming to private hospitals were also returned from outside.
In the state’s largest medical college and hospital RIMS, doctors boycotted the OPD and gathered near the superintendent’s office since morning and raised slogans in support of their demand. In Jamshedpur, doctors staged a sit-in in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Let us inform that after the death of a patient in Dausa district of Rajasthan, Dr. Archana committed suicide after being hurt by the uproar and the action of the police administration. She originally hailed from Ranchi and was a gold medalist of the 1998 MBBS batch at RIMS. Since this incident, people associated with the medical service have been agitating all over the country.
