New Delhi. Angered by the way the miscreants attacked the protesting doctors and vandalized the hospital after the rape and murder of a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, the All India Doctors’ Organization, IMA, has called for a strike. On this call of IMA, doctors will not do all work including OPD and elective surgeries from today till Sunday morning 6 am. This means that patients are going to face a lot of difficulty from Saturday to Sunday morning. However, IMA has decided that essential services including emergency will continue. Whereas, in Delhi, doctors will march to Jantar Mantar to express their protest. Doctors have been protesting fiercely in various cities of the country since August 9.

A female doctor studying in the second year of PG at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata was brutally raped and then murdered. In the incident of rape and murder of the female doctor on the intervening night of 8 and 9 August, Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer named Sanjay Rai. However, it was alleged that there was not just one accused. The reason given for this is that the way the female doctor was brutalized, one man cannot do that. On the orders of the Calcutta High Court, a CBI investigation is now being conducted into this incident. At the same time, the family members of the female doctor have requested everyone not to display their daughter’s pictures on social media or anywhere else.

Politics has also heated up due to the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. CM and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee took out a 3 km march on Friday to protest the incident and demand the death penalty for the accused. Meanwhile, BJP, CPM and Congress continued to target Mamata Banerjee’s government and the police. There is no hope of this matter calming down at the moment. Now everyone’s eyes are on whether any other accused is caught in the CBI investigation for the rape and murder of the female doctor or not.
