A major scrutiny of Rahul Gandhi’s claims on the question of caste share and participation. The figures of share and participation in the organization of Bihar Congress will surprise you. Is there a big difference between what Congress leader Rahul Gandhi says and what he does? Look at the statistics.
Patna. Don’t ask the caste of a sadhu, ask his knowledge… value the sword, leave the sheath! The direct meaning of this couplet by Kabir is that one should leave ego and take knowledge from whoever one gets it… that is knowledge should be valued and not someone’s caste identity. But the reality is that Indian politics cannot move forward without talking about caste. The Congress party which once claimed to end casteism in the country is now constantly moving forward with caste demands. The party’s biggest leader Rahul Gandhi is giving it the most strength from his side and is promoting caste politics from the streets to the Parliament. Especially after bringing caste discussion in the Halwa ceremony during the Union Budget, this debate has become stronger. But, amidst all this, questions are also being raised on the claim of the Congress party that whether the Congress does justice within its own party on the basis of caste, or its leaders only do politics.
There is a debate and politics going on about the statements made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on the issue of caste share and participation. Rahul Gandhi is talking about giving rights and space to Dalits and backward classes. But if we look at the situation within the Congress, the whole thing seems to be proved wrong. Rahul Gandhi has talked about giving rights and representation to Dalits and backward classes, but according to the allegations made by the BJP, these things were never implemented within the Congress itself. Just look at the data of representation within the Bihar Congress to see how much importance the Congress has given. When we investigated this in the Bihar Congress, there is a huge difference between Rahul Gandhi’s claims and the reality. Whether it is the matter of organization or the matter of candidates in the elections, read a special report based on the data ahead.
The reality of caste participation in Bihar Congress
At present, the post of state president of Bihar Congress is held by Akhilesh Singh who belongs to the general category. Earlier state president Madan Mohan Jha was also an upper caste. Presently, treasurer Nirmalendu Verma is also from the general caste. Congress’ Bihar in-charge Mohan Prakash also belongs to the upper caste. The special thing is that Akhilesh Singh, who belongs to the upper caste, got the Rajya Sabha post from Bihar. The candidates in the Legislative Council also come from the general category and Sameer Singh has been made MLC. Earlier, Premchandra Mishra (general category) was sent to the Legislative Council by the Congress.
Nearly 50% of the candidates in the assembly are from the general category
In the 2020 assembly elections, Congress contested on 70 seats in which 33 people of general caste were made candidates. At the same time, Congress gave 13 seats to Dalits and only 11 seats to backward and extremely backward classes. The special thing is that Congress had given 13 Muslim candidates. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar Congress was made an election committee member and 50 members were made in the committee. 25 upper caste faces were included in the committee.
More than 65 percent of district presidents are from the general category
The organisational elections of Bihar Congress have not been held for the last several years due to which the organisation is dissolved. When Congress announced 38 district presidents in Bihar, the figures tell the whole story themselves. Out of the 38 districts of Bihar, 26 district presidents of Congress are from the upper caste. 5 are OBC, 5 are from minority and 3 are from Dalit community. 67 percent of the district presidents are upper caste. Among the upper castes also, the maximum 11 are from Bhumihar caste. BJP is also alleging that earlier Dalit Bhakt Charan was made the Bihar in-charge but was removed within a year.
BJP’s attack, but Congress is not looking in the mirror
BJP leader Asit Nath Tiwari is raising questions on the figures of representation of Dalits and backward castes in Bihar Congress. On the other hand, Congress is completely rejecting the allegations of BJP and saying that Congress is the only party which has given representation to all. However, the ruckus continues in the Parliament. Questions ranging from Chakravyuh to caste are being raised inside the Parliament, but along with this, questions are also being raised about the words and deeds of Congress. Congress may claim anything, but the picture of the organization of Bihar Congress stands in front like a mirror.
