The team claimed that people from Iran are involved in stealing and disseminating these sensitive internal documents. Although the team leading the campaign did not provide any direct evidence of Iran’s involvement, its claim came after a report was released by the giant IT company Microsoft. Donald Trump’s election campaign spokesman Steven Cheung has blamed “foreign sources hostile to America” for the hacking. A National Security Council spokesman said in a statement that it (the council) took the report of improper foreign interference “extremely seriously”. What did Iran say?
Iran’s mission to the United Nations denied involvement when asked about the Donald Trump campaign’s claims. “We do not place any credence to such reports,” the mission said. “The Iranian government has no intention or motive to interfere in the US presidential election and it does not intend to do so,” the mission said.
