Dr. Wali says, ‘For our body, exposure to extreme hot weather also has some health benefits. During high temperatures, our body produces two very important substances called heat shock proteins (HSPs) and cold shock proteins. These are two proteins due to which the immunity in the body is boosted. Often, in case of serious disease like cancer, these proteins decide that the damaged cells die due to uncontrolled cells. Also new cells are born. Not only this, both these proteins strengthen our immune system, so that it can fight any disease. The special thing is that they also reduce stress in the body and protect the brain.
How important is heat shock protein?
In a chapter on heat shock proteins in the Brenner Encyclopedia of Genetics, a book published by Elsevier on how important heat shock proteins are, Mikhail Poromenko of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences says, ‘Heat shock proteins are special proteins. These are formed when cells are exposed to temperatures above their normal growth temperature. The synthesis of HSPs is a universal phenomenon, occurring in all plant and animal species studied except humans.
Shock protein and mental health
Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Chairman of the Mental Health Institute of Moolchand Hospital, says, ‘Shock protein has been seen to have a positive effect on cognitive abilities. Through these proteins, the progress of some dangerous brain diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s can be slowed down. These proteins prevent damage in the brain. It is beneficial even in depression patients.
How does shock protein grow?
Apart from increasing temperature and heat, heat and cold shock proteins also increase in the body in these ways on other days.
, excercise
Cardiovascular and strength training also increases body temperature and increases the production of heat shock proteins.
, steam bath
Taking steam bath i.e. sauna bath also increases HSP. Regular sauna bath improves the health of brain, lungs and skin and also reduces the level of inflammation in the body.
. Taking a bath with cold water
After the body temperature increases due to exercise, bathing with cold water increases the production of cold shock protein.
, take sunlight
Staying in sunlight for some time in the morning also increases the body temperature and due to this heat shock protein starts being produced. Besides, the production of Vitamin D in the body also increases.
