Defense Research and Development Organization i.e. DRDO has been taking India on the path of development in various fields including defense for a long time. Now DRDO has done another miracle which will greatly benefit the soldiers of the country. DRDO’s Defense Material and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), Kanpur has successfully developed the country’s lightest bullet proof jacket. These jackets will provide protection to soldiers from 7.62 x 54 R API (Level 6 of BIS 17051) ammunition.
The jacket is made with a new approach
According to information shared by DRDO, the country’s lightest bullet proof jacket developed was recently successfully tested at TBRL Chandigarh. DRDO has designed this bullet proof jacket according to the new design and approach. Scientists have used new processes as well as new types of materials to make this jacket.
What are the features of this jacket?
The Front Hard Armor Panel (HAP) of this bullet proof jacket developed by DRDO has neutralized 06 shots of 7.62 x 54 R API (Sniper Round) in both ICW (in-conjunction with) and standalone designs. The front of the jacket HAP is ergonomically designed and is made of monolithic ceramic plate with polymer backing. Due to this, both the efficiency and comfort of wearing this jacket increases during operation. The aerial density of the ICW Hard Armor Panel (HAP) and standalone HAP of the jacket has been kept less than 40 kg/m2 and 43 kg/m2.
