Summer Tea: Good or Bad: In extreme heat, most people prefer to drink cold juice or cold drinks instead of tea. People feel that eating and drinking cold things can provide relief from the heat. However, tea lovers are seen sipping tea despite being drenched in sweat in the scorching sun. It is often said that heat only kills heat, which people often take as a joke. Now the question is, should people drink tea in extreme heat? Can doing so increase the body temperature? Let’s try to find answers to these questions.
DW’s Report According to, drinking tea in summer can give you more coolness than cold drinks. This has come to light in research. According to neuroscientist Professor Peter McNaughton of Cambridge University, England, consuming hot beverages like tea or hot water increases the core temperature of your body, due to which you start sweating more. This starts cooling the body. The nerves of our mouth and digestive system react to the heat of the tea and this gives a signal to the brain to sweat more. As soon as it evaporates, the sweat cools you down.
Dr. Christopher Gordon, an expert on human thermoregulation at the University of Sydney, Australia, says that if a person is already hot, drinking tea makes them feel hotter, but after this they will feel cold when they sweat. Sweat glands are most in our head and parts like hands and lower legs. As soon as people sweat, they immediately feel cold. Sweating is very important for the proper functioning of our body. If sweating stops in summer, the body’s core temperature will increase and this can cause heat stroke.
According to neuroscientist Professor Peter McNaughton, drinking tea and coffee is not the only option to keep the body cool. Eating hot food and chillies can also be beneficial in this season. The active ingredient in chillies, capsaicin, causes sweating, which cools the body. When you eat this type of food, your body’s central nervous system gets triggered. This increases the heat in the mouth and the skin temperature. Due to this, the blood vessels expand and more sweating occurs. This improves the body’s cooling system and provides relief from heat.
