ICMR Health Tips: At this time, fire is raining from the sky in most areas of North India and people are troubled by the heat. To get relief from the scorching heat, people are preferring to drink sugarcane juice, cold drinks, fruit juice and other cold things instead of water. Sugarcane juice is the most consumed juice in this season. However, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has advised people not to drink too much sugarcane juice. In the alert issued by ICMR, it has been said that consuming sugarcane juice, cold drinks, fruit juice with added sugar, tea and coffee can harm health in summer.
The guidelines issued by ICMR state that 100 mg of sugarcane juice contains about 13-15 grams of sugar. Adults should not consume more than 30 grams of sugar in a day. For children, sugar intake of more than 24 grams in a day can be harmful. According to this, if someone is drinking more sugarcane juice, then more sugar than required is going into the body. Excessive consumption of sugar can increase the risk of many serious diseases including obesity, BP, fatty liver, diabetes. To avoid this, people should eat fruits instead of fruit juice.
Kamini Sinha, Senior Dietician at Diet Mantra Clinic, Noida, told AnyTV That sugarcane juice, packaged juice and cold drinks contain high amounts of sugar. Diabetes patients should completely avoid these things. Sugarcane juice is considered natural, but if hygiene is not maintained, it can increase the risk of serious diseases like jaundice. Instead, people should consume lemonade, coconut water, shikanji, buttermilk in abundance in summer. These things are rich in nutrients, which will not only improve hydration but will also strengthen the body.
Dietician told that in extreme heat, people should drink 3 to 4 liters of water daily. This will maintain electrolyte balance in the body and will help in avoiding dehydration. In this season, consuming water-rich fruits and vegetables like cucumber, tomato, watermelon is considered beneficial. However, those who are sugar patients can consult their doctor about this. According to experts, people should not go out of the house much in extreme heat. If you have to go out in the sun, then definitely carry a water bottle with you and do not let the body get dehydrated. People should try to avoid sunlight and contact the doctor immediately in case of any kind of problem.
