Nagpur. An engineering student, allegedly in an inebriated condition, ran his car over people sleeping on the footpath in Nagpur’s Dighori area on Monday, crushing two women to death, a police official said. Seven people, including four children, were injured in the accident that occurred at 12:40 am, Wathoda police station official said.
This has brought back memories of the incident that took place in Pune on May 19, when a minor teenager, allegedly driving a Porsche car at a very high speed while in an inebriated condition, collided with a motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area, killing two software engineers – Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.
Regarding the incident in Nagpur, the official said, “The victims are members of a toy-selling family and live on the footpath. Hyundai Verna driver Bhushan Lanjewar fled the scene along with five others (in an inebriated condition). Lanjewar was later nabbed based on CCTV footage.”
The deceased have been identified as Kantibai Gajod Bagadia (42) and Sitaram Babulal Bagadia (30). The injured are Kavita Sitaram Bagadia (28), Balku Sitaram Bagadia (8), Haseena Sitaram Bagadia (3), Sakina Sitaram Bagadia (2) Hanuman Khajod Bagadia (35) and Vikram Bhusha Hanuman Bagadia (10).
“The injured have been admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital,” the official said. An official of the Wathoda police station said Lanjewar has been charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
