New Delhi. The land near the Tajikistan border of Afghanistan was shocked by earthquake shakes on Saturday morning. The severe tremors of the earthquake spread panic in the area. Its intensity on the Richter scale was measured 5.9. Its effect was not limited to Afghanistan only, but shocks were felt to Jammu and Kashmir of Northern India. As soon as the earth moved in the morning, people came out of the houses and there was an atmosphere of chaos in many areas. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the earthquake struck on Saturday, 19 April 2025 at 6.47 am and 55 seconds (UTC time). Its center was on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region. The depth of the earthquake was measured about 86 km, which makes it a moderately earthquake.
Due to the earthquake, shocks were felt more intensely in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan and surrounding areas. Although the loss of any life and property has not been officially confirmed, but in the local media reports, reports of people running out of their homes and fear are coming out. The center of earthquake is quite hill and hard geography, which can lead to a challenge in relief and rescue operations.
Earthquake tremors were also felt in Jammu and Kashmir, India. In areas like Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag, people were stunned as soon as the earth moved in the morning and a large number of people came out of the houses and reached safe places. The local administration has started preparing to deal with any kind of emergency by taking vigilance. The Meteorological Department and the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) are monitoring the situation.
