Let us tell you that a press conference was held today by the Election Commission in which CEC Rajiv Kumar said that before the counting of votes begins, the opposition should also inform the Election Commission about those trying to influence the election process. He said that everyone cannot be brought under suspicion by spreading rumours. The CEC said that one lesson we learnt in this election was that we thought that people sitting abroad would try to influence the election, but on the contrary, people sitting in the country made unsuccessful attempts to influence the election.
Earlier, Jairam Ramesh had raised questions and said that Congress respects the Election Commission, but due to the way the Election Commission has been functioning so far, this institution cannot be trusted. The Congress leader had said that the Election Commission is a constitutional institution, it should be impartial. People’s eyes are not only on political parties and their candidates but also on the Election Commission.
