Jaipur . The Central Enforcement Directorate (ED) took a major action in Jaipur on Tuesday and started a raid at the residence of former minister Pratap Singh Khachariwas. Pratap Singh has been a cabinet minister in the previous Ashok Gehlot government of Rajasthan.
This action is said to be related to the PACL scam worth Rs 2,850 crore in the state. Congress leader Pratap Singh is accused that he also has some amount of scam.
On the raid of the ED at his residence, Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariwas said, “Today he has come to investigate, will come to search. Will cooperate with them … ED will do its work and we will do their work. I believe that the BJP government should not do politics through ED. Pratap Singh Khachariwas is not afraid today, nor tomorrow. I have to send these governments. Will be afraid of corruption.
The Supreme Court on 2 February 2016 formed a committee under the chairmanship of retired CJI RM Lodha. The court had asked the committee to auction the properties of PACL and pay people with interest in 6 months. According to SEBI’s assessment, PACL has assets worth Rs 1.86 lakh crore, which is 4 times compared to the deposits of investors.
Considering the schemes of PACL company illegal, SEBI had closed the company’s business on 22 August 2014, due to which the capital company of investors remained deposited. After this, the case ran a case between the company and SEBI in the Supreme Court and the SEBI case won. In the PACL, which has invested in real estate in the state for 17 years, 28 lakh people of the state had invested around 2,850 crore and 5.85 crore people of the country invested a total of 49,100 crore.
The company has cases registered in more than half of the states including Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Jaipur Rural, Udaipur, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh. The first disclosure of this scam was made in Jaipur itself, when the first case was registered under the Chaumu police station in 2011 under the cheating and chit fund act. Pratap Singh’s participation in the case is said to be around 30 crores, for which the ED is now investigating.
