Maharashtra Amid the arrival of new Kharif soybean crop in Sangli Mandi, the price of soybean oilseeds declined in the edible oil-oilseeds market of the country on Saturday. The prices of mustard oilseeds, soybean oil, crude palm oil (CPO) and palmolein and cottonseed oil closed here showing improvement amid an improvement of about two percent on Friday night in the Chicago Exchange. The prices of groundnut oil-oilseeds remained at the previous level amid low business at high prices. Knowledgeable market sources said that the price of new Kharif soybean crop in Sangli Mandi is being fixed at Rs 4,000 per quintal, while the new minimum support price (MSP) of soybean is Rs 4,892 per quintal.

Subsidy is available in Maharashtra

Apart from this, only the Maharashtra government has given a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per acre to farmers to encourage them to increase the production of soybean and cotton. But despite this incentive amount, the cost of the farmers is coming out to be less. In comparison, soybean production is much higher in Madhya Pradesh and no such subsidy has been given there, so one can guess about their cost recovery and the condition of cost recovery in other soybean producing states.

Government should think about farmers

Sources said that in the coming days, the arrival of new soybean crop in the markets will increase further, it is difficult to say anything about what will happen at that time. But it is certain that if cheap soybean imports continue, then like the previous soybean crop, this time too soybean will have to be kept in the warehouses. Someone will have to think about this situation and find a way so that the indigenous oilseeds are consumed, farmers get adequate money and their confidence in increasing oilseed production is strengthened.

Wholesale prices of imported oils are very cheap

Sources said that the cooperative institution NAFED is selling mustard oilseeds at the rate of Rs 5,150 to Rs 5,550 per quintal according to the percentage of oil content in different states. However, according to the new MSP of mustard, both the prices of mustard are less than the MSP. Apart from this, a free vardana of about Rs 150 is being given for each quintal of mustard. Overall, the current selling price is less than the MSP. Attention needs to be paid to this. Sources said that at present the wholesale prices of imported oils are very cheap. The critics and concerned officials who are worried about the inflation of oilseeds should make arrangements to pass on the benefits of this golden time to the consumers.
