Ban on major radio stations
The radio station featured interviews with Ukrainian journalists who recounted the horrors of the Russian invasion. However, editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov told Reuters news agency this week that the station would not abandon the independent editorial policy that has been its hallmark for three decades. He said that our editorial policies will not change. The United States on Wednesday accused Russia of waging a war on media freedom and truth by barring independent news companies from listening to news of the invasion of Ukraine.
The State Department said in a statement that Russia’s government was also throttling Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, which millions of Russian citizens rely on to gain independent information and opinion. Russians also use social media to connect with each other and the outside world.
