Jalandhar. Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi termed the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch as a ‘political stunt’ to ensure BJP’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections. In this attack, one Indian Air Force soldier was killed and four others were injured. In such a situation, the remarks of the former Chief Minister of Punjab and Congress candidate from Jalandhar parliamentary constituency created a controversy and Union Minister Anurag Thakur asked the Congress leadership to apologize to the countrymen for insulting the soldiers with this statement.
On a question related to the attack on the Indian Air Force convoy in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, Channi said, ‘This is stunting, attacks are not taking place.’ Congress candidate from Jalandhar seat and former Chief Minister of Punjab said, ‘Whenever elections come, such stunts are played and the way is prepared for BJP to win the elections. It is the job of BJP to get people killed and play on their dead bodies.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur strongly condemned Channi’s statement and asked Congress whether it would insult soldiers to win the elections. He asked Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and the party president to apologize for Channi’s remarks. Thakur was in Jalandhar on Sunday. He said, ‘They insult our army. They question the capability of our army. He asked, ‘Will Congress insult our brave soldiers to win the elections?’
At the same time, Punjab state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar also condemned Channi’s comment, calling it ‘shameful’. He said, ‘Congress leader Channi’s terrible statement belittling the bravery of our brave soldiers is no less than a crime and an insult to the nation. Channi’s shameful statement on the attack on our Air Force personnel in Poonch, calling his bravery a stunt shows his bankruptcy and desperation.
Jakhar said in a post on ‘X’, ‘The country will not forgive him. They should hang their heads in shame. Congress and its allies should clarify this issue. He should publicly distance himself from his statement and immediately ask him to apologize to the country.
