New Delhi. The Lok Sabha elections are over, the results have also come out, the NDA alliance led by Narendra Modi is going to form the government for the third consecutive time. Narendra Modi is going to take oath as PM Modi on Sunday, but big news is coming from Kerala, which can be worrying for the Congress. Shashi Tharoor has won the Thiruvananthapuram seat for the fourth consecutive time, but on Friday he surprised everyone by saying that this could be his last Lok Sabha election. After this, speculations have started being made whether Tharoor is going to retire from politics?
Tharoor defeated Union Minister of State for Information Technology and Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Rajiv Chandrashekhar by a margin of 16,077 votes in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat and registered his fourth consecutive victory from the constituency. In fact, Tharoor said on Friday that if the next Lok Sabha elections are held after five years, he will not contest the elections. Why he said so is quite shocking.
Speaking to PTI, Tharoor said that though he is not a fan of politics or elections, he does not see himself in the Lok Sabha elections. He said, “I have done my job and I honestly feel that at some point we all should feel that we should leave the field for the youth.” He said that Lok Sabha is definitely a very important institution. I have tried to give my best to my voters and will continue to do so to serve them.
Tharoor has decided not to contest the Lok Sabha elections next time.
Tharoor said, ‘The Lok Sabha is definitely a very important institution. There are many ways to serve in public life…I think if the elections are held five years from now, I definitely do not want to go to the Lok Sabha again. There are five years to serve now and he is committed to give his best efforts in this term for the people he represents. (PTI input)
