Chandigarh. Amidst the scorching heat, the power demand in Haryana has reached an all-time high with an additional requirement of 3,000 MW of power. The BJP government claims that necessary arrangements are being made to overcome the shortfall.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar recently in a review meeting with the officials of power distribution companies said that about 400 MW should be generated through short-term model.
Power Minister Ranjit Singh said that the state would get 1,500 MW of additional power in the next 10 days.
He said that to ensure regular supply, electricity is being purchased by the government at the rate of Rs.12 per unit.
Referring to last year’s summer demand, he said it was 12,125 MW per day. It is expected to reach 15,000 MW this season.
The government has made adequate arrangements to fill this gap of 2,500 to 3,000 MW.
Presently, three units of 250 MW each are running at Panipat, while two units of 600 MW each are running at Khedar and two units of 300 MW each at Yamunanagar.
Along with this, 1400 MW power is being arranged from Adani Power Plant.
According to the Chief Minister, to overcome the increasing consumption of electricity during the summer, the problems of the power plant in Khedar village are being resolved and it will be made operational soon.
He also said that a new 750 MW power plant would be set up in Yamunanagar. After its installation, additional power will be generated.
He said that along with power generation, DISCOMs are also improving the system to ensure that there is no shortage of power in Haryana.
