The law of different electricity rates for day and night has been passed in Uttar Pradesh, but it will not be implemented at the moment. This has brought relief to the customers. It will take two years for the Electricity Corporation to implement it. Till then, consumers will be relieved, but as soon as smart meters are installed in the entire state, the electricity corporation will start getting different data of day and night. This will increase the electricity rates again and electricity will become 25 percent expensive at night than the day.
Power Corporation sources say it will take two years to distinguish day and night electricity rates, but the department is trying to implement it in a phased manner.
At present, different rates will not be applied for day and night.
Sources say that in the first phase it will be implemented in large cities, then in small cities and finally in towns and villages. For this, the work of installing smart meters is being done fast. To reduce its deficit, the Electricity Corporation will insist on keeping separate electricity rates for day and night under the new law.
The law is passed, but it will take two years to implement.
At the same time, the Consumer Council says that despite the passage of this law, the Electricity Corporation is asking for two years to implement it. In such a situation, when the electricity rates increase, we will fight against it. The Consumer Council believes that the poor will suffer the most due to the 25 percent increase in electricity rates.
