New Delhi. The Union Health Ministry has urged to stop the protests taking place after the death of a female doctor in Kolkata RG Kar Hospital. The ministry has assured to make every possible effort to ensure the safety of doctors. In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry said that a committee will be formed to suggest measures to ensure the safety of all health care workers. The ministry has requested the doctors who went on strike to return in public interest. The ministry has said that dengue-malaria has started wreaking havoc in many parts of the country. In such a situation, you should return from the strike.
Following the Kolkata incident, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday appealed to call off the strike after meeting representatives of the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA), Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Resident Doctors’ Association of Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals of Delhi.
When will the striking doctors return to work?
Following the incident with a resident doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the associations have put forth their demands regarding their concern over the safety of healthcare workers at workplaces. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has heard the demands of the representatives and assured them of making every effort to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals.
The Union Health Ministry has told the representatives of all the associations that the government is well aware of the situation and is sensitive to their demands. It was observed that 26 states have already passed laws to protect health workers in their respective states. The ministry has now assured to form a committee to ensure the safety of health professionals. In this, representatives of all stakeholders including state governments will be invited to share their suggestions with the committee.

In view of the increasing cases of dengue and malaria, the Union Health Ministry requested the agitating doctors to return to their work in public interest. Dengue-malaria cases have started increasing in states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka and MP. However, even after this assurance from the government, there has been no response from the doctors yet. Meanwhile, doctors are on strike in all the hospitals of Delhi since 6 am today.
