Dhaka Hundreds of officers and employees once again protested against the Mohammad Yunus government at the Bangladesh Secretariat and demanded the withdrawal of the disputed ‘Government Services (Amendment) Ordinance’.

According to local media reports, terming the ordinance as ‘black law’, the employees warned that if their demands were not met, the protest would be further raised.

Nurul Islam, leader of Bangladesh Secretariat officer-worker Ekta Manch, said, “We demand the cancellation of this black law. Along with this we also demand 50 percent dearness allowance and fascist thinking officers to remove.”

Badiul Kabir said, “Our movement will continue till the ordinance is completely canceled.”

Earlier this week, Ekta Manch had warned to organize a huge rally against the government’s attitude in Badamatal area of the Secretariat.

The forum general secretary Mujahidul Islam Salim questioned Asif Nazrul, the legal advisor of the interim government, saying, “He said that when this law was passed, he was out of the country. If they were present, this ordinance would not have been near.”

He further said, “We are not a miscreants, nor are there slogans on the streets. Still, why are we being provoked?”

Earlier, while addressing the media on Monday, Advisor Asif Nazrul admitted that this ordinance has led to the possibility of harassment of government employees and there is a scope for some amendment.

He said, “This law was not made by maliciousness, but for those for which it has come into force may be upset. I believe that some parts of this law are considering.”

Let us know that the draft of this ordinance was approved in the meeting of the Advisory Council of the Interim Administration on 22 May, after which the employees in the secretariat have been protesting.

According to reports, under the amended ordinance, if a government employee does not obey the order, remain absent without permission, or prevent others from working, then it will be considered a punishable offense, which provides for punishment such as demonstration, dismissal, dismissal or expulsion from service.
