After Chandimal returned to the pavilion, Sri Lankan captain Dhananjay de Silva came on the field to handle the innings.

Smith became the youngest wicketkeeper to score a century in Tests for England. In this way, he broke a 94-year-old record. Thanks to Smith’s century, England was able to score 358 runs in their first innings. Jamie Smith scored 111 runs and Harry Brook scored 56 runs in the first innings for England. Earlier, Sri Lanka’s first innings were restricted to 236 runs.
