Big news is coming from Sri Lanka Cricket. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed former English cricketer Ian Bell as batting coach for the upcoming England tour. SLC said that Bell will start working with the team from August 16 and will remain with the team till the three-Test series. Sri Lanka’s England tour will start from August 21 and will run till September 10. Sri Lanka will play 3 Test matches on this tour. The first Test of the three-match Test series between Lanka and England will be played in Manchester from 21 to 25 August. The second Test will start at Lord’s on August 29 and the third and last Test will be played at Kennington Oval from September 6.
SLC CEO Ashley de Silva said, “We have appointed Ian to get important information about the local conditions. Ian has a lot of experience playing in England and we believe that his advice will help our team in this important tour.” Bell’s arrival will be expected to help the Sri Lankan team a lot in the conditions of England.
Bell will give batting tips to Sri Lanka
Former England batsman Bell has played 118 Test matches and scored 7727 runs at an average of 42.69. Bell also has 22 Test centuries to his name. Bell was considered one of the best Test batsmen of his time. In the year 2020, he retired from all formats of cricket. Bell’s joining the Sri Lankan team is expected to help the visiting team a lot and now it will be interesting to see how this team performs in England’s home.
Under Jayasuriya’s coaching, Sri Lanka recently created history by defeating the Indian team 2-0 in a 3 match ODI series. India had to face defeat in an ODI series at the hands of Sri Lanka after 27 years. After defeating a strong team like India, Sri Lanka’s confidence is sky high and it is expected to benefit from it in England.
