Operation Blue Star Punjab: If the Labour Party wins the UK general elections to be held on 4th July, it will hold an inquiry on England’s role in Operation Bluestar. However, many British Sikhs believe that the earlier inquiry is ‘false’ and they are demanding a ‘public inquiry led by an independent judge’. The Labour Party has said this at a time when the election survey conducted in Britain has predicted a landslide victory for the Labour Party in the general elections this time.
According to a report published in the Times of India, the Labour Party has ‘vowed’ to conduct a detailed investigation into the allegations and role of the then British PM Margaret Thatcher in the military action of the Indian Army on the Golden Temple, a religious place of the Sikhs. Let us tell you that it was after this action that Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated and anti-Sikh riots took place.
Labour candidate Zarah Sultana (Coventry South) also said that the role played by the Thatcher government in this was shrouded in mystery. I stand with the Sikh community in demanding an inquiry to bring out the truth. The Labour candidate for Slough Tan Dhesi wrote on X – 40 years after Indira Gandhi ordered the attack on the Golden Temple complex … there is still no justice for the victims, nor has the UK conducted any inquiry into the involvement of the Thatcher government (although the Labour Party has promised)!
There was talk of ‘help’ in the intelligence documents
On 6 June 1984, the Indian Army conducted a military operation in the name of Operation Blue Star in the Golden Temple complex to remove Bhindranwale militants from the Harimandir Sahib complex. Let us tell you that some intelligence documents were revealed about this military action on the Golden Temple. These raised questions about Britain’s role in this operation. The BBC report says that according to these documents, the British Special Air Service (SAS) helped in this entire operation after the instructions of the then Prime Minister of England Margaret Thatcher. In February, before Operation Blue Star, Britain had sent an SAS officer to India to prepare a plan to remove Sikh militants from the Golden Temple, who was asked to do so by Indira Gandhi.
Cameron’s investigation found that…
After the release of these documents in 2014, the then British Prime Minister David Cameron also ordered an inquiry into this matter. After this, the Heywood Review published in February 2014 – according to this disclosure in February, a review based on more than 23,000 documents found no record of any UK assistance in the June 1984 operation except ‘limited military advice’. However, despite the release of these documents, no independent public inquiry was conducted into Margaret Thatcher’s involvement in Operation Blue Star, blaming the government.
Survey rings alarm bells for UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak
Unlike the ruling Conservative Party in Britain, this time the Labour Party can register the biggest victory in its history in the elections. Let us tell you that at present the Prime Minister of Britain is Rishi Sunak and he is from the Conservative Party. Survey agency YouGov has predicted its overwhelming majority. Deputy Labour leader Angela Raynor said, as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the raid on the Golden Temple, Labour stands with the Sikh community in calling for an investigation into the historical role played by Britain. The Labour government will work to decide the best way to find out the truth.
