Protests continue in many hospitals including Delhi AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital even today
The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) announced on Tuesday that it is withdrawing its strike. FORDA made this announcement after meeting Union Health Minister JP Nadda. The association said that it is withdrawing its strike over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata because the Union Health Minister has accepted their demands. A delegation of FORDA met Union Minister JP Nadda at his residence late on Tuesday night.
A committee will be formed soon
FORDA said that the decision to end the strike from Wednesday morning has been taken in the interest of the patients. According to the association’s statement, “In the meeting, the Health Minister agreed to form a committee with the participation of FORDA to work on the Central Security Law. Also, the ministry has assured that work on it will start within the next 15 days.” Now an official notification from the Health Ministry is expected soon.
Strike in many hospitals including Delhi AIIMS
After FORDA’s announcement, many government hospitals called off their strike but the strike will continue in Delhi AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, RML, Indira Gandhi Hospital Dwarka, PGIMS and Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital. Resident doctors of these hospitals will still be on strike. Also, OPD services will remain disrupted in these hospitals even today.
FAIMA made this demand
Meanwhile, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has also written a letter to JP Nadda. In the letter, FAIMA has demanded from Union Minister JP Nadda that a law should be made for the safety of doctors in all hospitals across the country, for which a committee should be formed soon. Also, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College should be suspended instead of transferring him somewhere else.
What was the matter?
The body of a postgraduate trainee was found in the seminary of the government RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on Friday morning. It was reported that the doctor was raped and murdered. A person was arrested on Saturday in this connection. In protest against this gruesome incident, resident doctors of government hospitals across the country went on an indefinite strike last Monday, affecting OPD and elective services including non-emergency surgeries.
