Mumbai. A newspaper published a news on June 16 claiming that a relative of Shiv Sena candidate from Mumbai North West seat Ravindra Dattaram Waikar unlocked the EVM by taking OTP from mobile phone. Now the newspaper itself has declared this fact given in the news as wrong. The newspaper has written that the news about unlocking EVM through OTP is wrong and it apologizes for it. The question is what will the opposition, which is creating a ruckus on this issue, say now? Also, some journalists had written a lot on this issue on social media, they are also being taunted now.

Ravindra Waikar had won the Mumbai North West seat by just 48 votes. Here, re-counting was also done as the victory and defeat were by a small margin. After the news of EVMs being unlocked using OTP was published in the newspaper, the Election Commission took a serious stand and filed a case against Waikar’s relative and an employee associated with the election process who used a mobile phone in the counting center. Mumbai Police is investigating this. At the same time, a notice was sent to the newspaper for publishing false news.

As soon as the news of EVM being unlocked with OTP of mobile was published in the newspaper, opposition parties opened a front. All opposition leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi started raising questions on EVM. Demand for conducting elections with ballot paper instead of EVM started rising. Meanwhile, politics heated up more on Elon Musk’s post that EVM can be hacked. On this post of Elon Musk, former Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar took a jibe and even talked about giving a tutorial to the owner of Tesla. Let us tell you that opposition parties have been raising questions on voting through EVM for a long time. They allege that BJP is made to win elections by tampering with EVM. However, this time when opposition parties got more seats in the Lok Sabha elections, the issue of EVM cooled down. Then after the news was published in the newspaper, the atmosphere heated up again.
