Akash Shukla, Raipur. Substandard medicines are being supplied in government hospitals of Chhattisgarh. Here, the health of patients is at stake due to black marketing of medicines. Many medicines given to patients in the state are not working. According to government documents, 36 medicines and pharmaceutical companies have been blacklisted in Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation (CGMSC) in the last two and a half years. According to CGMSC GM Technology (Drug) Hiren Patel, the blacklisted companies are big pharmaceutical companies of Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and other states. That is, these companies have supplied substandard (low quality and fake) medicines and surgical materials to CGMSC. The issue of blacklisting of 36 medicines is big because every medicine in the state is valuable for the patients.
The surprising thing is that CGMSC came to know about the substandard quality of medicines when the medicines had already been supplied to the government hospitals of the state. Not only this, lakhs of patients had also used these medicines. These medicines including antibiotics and multivitamins were given to patients for serious diseases. Patients and their families complained to many hospitals that the medicines were not working. After that the hospitals examined the medicines and surgical materials. After investigation it was revealed that they were fake. As soon as information was received that they were fake, there was a stir. CGMSC hurriedly recalled the medicines from the hospitals. He immediately blacklisted the pharmaceutical companies. Such processes are going on continuously.
The entire work is being done by the syndicate.
Let us tell you, before supplying medicines in CGMSC, pharmaceutical companies have to go through many government processes like empanelment, tender, quality check of medicines, lab tests etc. Now the question arises that how do substandard medicines reach government hospitals after going through so many processes. Actually this is where the whole corruption game starts. According to departmental sources, every process is rigged in a phased manner. A big syndicate is working for this in the health department. In this, influential people associated with the government and administration are working like a gang. After detection of defective medicines in government hospitals, the department gets away with taking action against the medicine or the company, but leave alone taking any action against the officers and employees purchasing it, no investigation is conducted. No inquiry committee is constituted.
Political brokers entered the government system
According to the information, commission commission and rigging is taking place in medicines on a large scale. Because of this, patients’ lives are being played with in hospitals. In lieu of passing the tender for medicine supply, a huge amount ranging from 10 to 30% is paid through various means. Such a chain of corrupt people has been formed in the government system that collusion is taking place from top to bottom. Because of this, action is not being taken against its leaders. Due to this, the image of BJP government is also being tarnished.
Health Minister expressed concern, said, it is not right for patients’ trust to waver.
Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal has said that complaints are coming continuously. It is not right for patients’ trust to waver in government hospitals. We have instructed officials to investigate. Better arrangements will be made. At the same time, CGMSC MD Padmini Bhoi Sahu said that it is a matter of poor medicine supply i.e. playing with the health of the patients. Companies have to go through the government process before supplying medicines. There is a rule to get every sample tested in the lab. Will investigate irregularities in the department. Action will be taken against the culprit.
