We wanted to win for the country as well as for Sreejesh

In a special conversation with India TV’s Sports Editor Sameep Rajguru, Mandeep Singh said that our target was to win a medal for Sreejesh paaji. We had to win for the country as well as for Sreejesh. This was his last match, so all of us tried to perform well for him. We have played very well since the first match. We managed to beat the Australian team in the Olympics for the first time in 52 years. We played almost the entire match against Great Britain without a player but we managed to win that too.

How did Team India make a comeback after losing in the semi-finals?

In the Paris Olympics, the Indian hockey team had to face defeat against Germany in the semi-final match by a margin of 3-2. After losing this match, Team India played brilliantly in the bronze medal match. Regarding this, Mandeep Singh said that we lost despite playing well in the semi-finals but we had in mind that the medal can still be won. We prepared ourselves for the bronze medal match. Despite trailing 0-1 against Spain, we were confident that we could make a comeback. We created opportunities in which we managed to score goals as soon as we got a penalty corner.
