43 candidates from 80 political families won in the Lok Sabha elections Maximum 18 such candidates won from Congress and 12 from BJP Most number of family members contested elections in Maharashtra
A big issue in this election was nepotism, which was prominent in the speeches of the leaders. The parties which oppose nepotism fielded candidates from political families and so did other parties. About 80 such political families participated in this election. 43 of them won the election. Out of these, 18 won from Congress and 12 won from BJP.
National English newspaper Hindu has published a report on this. In this report, political families are those whose members have been MPs or MLAs in the past. Almost all political parties have given tickets to the siblings, parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, husbands or wives of such political families in these elections. All these political families are such whose members have been or are a part of Vidhan Sabha or Council, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha or have held ministerial posts.
The major parties included in this include candidates in the age group of 25 to 45 years and the parties that gave tickets include BJP, Congress, AAP, AITC, BJD, DMK, JD(S), JD(U), LJP(RV), NCP(SP), RJD, Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena (UBT), TDP, YSRCP.
Political families contested elections from Congress and BJP
Congress gave tickets to people from 35 political families, out of which 18 won and 17 lost. BJP gave tickets to people from 23 such families, out of which 12 won and 11 lost. BJD gave tickets to 4 such people and all lost. Lok Janshakti Party gave tickets to 3 political families and all three won. The same happened with Telugu Desam i.e. 3 political families and all three won. Shiv Sena fielded people from two families and won both.
This time Congress gave election tickets to 35 people from 35 political families, out of which 18 people won.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Akhilesh Yadav fielded 5 members of his family. He contested the elections for himself and his wife Dimple Yadav as well as 3 cousins. All the 5 faces of the Yadav family have succeeded in winning the elections. Now all the 5 leaders of the Yadav family will be seen together in the Lok Sabha Parliament.
SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav contested from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat. He defeated BJP candidate Subrata Pathak by 1,70000 votes. His wife Dimple Yadav defeated Yogi government minister Jaiveer Singh by about 2,21000 votes in Mainpuri. Dharmendra Yadav defeated BJP candidate from Azamgarh, Bhojpuri actor Dinesh Lal alias Nirahua by more than 1.5 lakh votes. Akhilesh Yadav’s uncle Ramgopal Yadav’s son Akshay Yadav won the election from Firozabad. Uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav’s son Aditya Yadav won from Badaun.
Lalu Yadav’s daughter and Paswan’s son
Notable candidates include Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD founder and former Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who lost from Saran seat. But his other daughter Misa Bharti won the election from Patliputra. She defeated BJP’s Ramkripal Yadav.
Chirag Paswan, son of LJP (RLD) party founder Ram Vilas Paswan, won from Hajipur (SC) seat. Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of former Union Minister and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, won from New Delhi seat. Karan Bhushan Singh, son of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh, won from Kaiserganj.
Tejasvi Surya, nephew of three-time BJP MLA L.A. Ravi Subramanyam, won from Bengaluru South seat. Praveen Kumar Nishad, son of Nishad Party founder Sanjay Nishad, lost from Sant Kabir Nagar seat.

Shinde’s son and Mamta Banerjee’s nephew
Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde, son of Maharashtra’s current Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, won from Kalyan seat. Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal’s current Chief Minister and AITC leader Mamata Banerjee, won from Diamond Harbor seat. Anil K. Antony, son of former Union Minister and senior Congress leader A.K. Antony, lost the election from Pathanamthitta seat. He contested the elections on a BJP ticket.
Revanna, grandson of Deve Gowda
JD(S) candidate Prajwal Revanna from Hassan constituency lost the election. The grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader HD Devegowda made headlines after several women accused him of sexual assault. He is currently facing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for these allegations.

However, in the Deve Gowda family, his son and JDS chief Kumaraswamy has won the election. His son-in-law Manjunath won from Bengaluru Rural seat.
Which state has the highest number of such candidates
The maximum number of candidates were in the fray from Maharashtra. This state saw candidates from 13 political families in the fray. 08 won and 05 lost. Karnataka was second in this matter, where 06 candidates from 11 political families won and 05 lost. In Bihar, candidates from 09 families contested and 05 won while 04 lost. In Odisha, 02 candidates from 06 families won and 04 lost. In Andhra, out of 05 candidates from political families, 4 won and 1 lost. In Uttar Pradesh, 05 political families participated in the elections and 03 won and 02 lost.

Nehru-Gandhi family
The Nehru-Gandhi family’s association with the Congress party began with Motilal Nehru in the 1920s, when India was under British rule. The family became more influential under the leadership of his son Jawaharlal Nehru. He became the country’s first Prime Minister, after which the family’s daughter Indira Gandhi became PM. Then Rajiv Gandhi became PM. This time Rahul Gandhi from this family won from both Rae Bareli and Wayanad constituencies.
