Washington: Former US President Donald Trump’s fiery speech at his first election campaign rally after narrowly escaping a deadly attack at an event in Pennsylvania enthused voters. He spoke of confronting the gunocracy for democracy. Trump dismissed the concerns of critics that he is a threat to democracy. In his fiery speech, Trump said that he “took a bullet for democracy.” Republican presidential candidate Trump was accompanied by vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance at the rally in Michigan on Saturday.

More than 12,000 people gathered to see Trump and Vance at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Referring to the leaders of the Democratic Party, Trump (78) said, “They keep saying that he (Trump) is a threat to democracy. I say, “What have I done against democracy?” I got shot for democracy last week.” He said amid thunderous applause from thousands of his supporters, “What have I done against democracy? This is madness.” A gunman fired several bullets at former President Trump during an election rally in Pennsylvania. In this attack, a bullet grazed Trump’s right ear, while one person attending the rally was killed and two others were seriously injured.

Trump called his rivals liars

The former president also spoke about the conservative Heritage Foundation’s ‘Project 2025’, which aims to redesign the US federal government to support Trump’s agenda, which his rivals claim is a threat to democracy. Distancing himself from the project, Trump said, “I don’t want to know anything about it, but they are giving misinformation and misleading information.” Trump, who came with a bandage on his ear, gave a speech for about two hours and thanked the staff of ‘Butler Memorial Hospital’, where he was taken after the shooting incident at his rally in Pennsylvania.

Thanks to the countrymen for their support

Trump said, “I want to give special thanks to the people across the country for their immense love and support after last Saturday’s horrific incident.” Trump alleged that the rival Democratic Party is trying to overturn its own primary results to eliminate incumbent President Joe Biden from the election race. He said, “As you can see, the Democrat Party is not a democratic party. They are actually the enemies of democracy.” The former president said, “The Republican Party under our leadership is the party of the people. We are the party of hardworking Americans of every caste, religion, color and creed. We have become a very big party.” (Language)
