Boom Fact Check: A video is becoming increasingly viral on social media in which some people are seen breaking the stage of a huge public meeting. Linking the video to the Lok Sabha elections 2024, it is being shared as the recent rally of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. But investigation found that this video is not from now but during the farmers’ movement in 2021.
boom fact check The team investigated and found that the viral video is from January 2021, when farmers protesting against the agricultural law had vandalized a program to be organized in Karnal, Haryana. Seeing the anger of the farmers, the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had to cancel his ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ program.
In the viral video, a crowd of people is seen climbing the stage and vandalizing the chairs and along with this, BJP flags are also seen hanging at various places in the video. The texts given in the video read, ‘Farmers entered and destroyed the pandal of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the force also ran away, silence in BJP.’ While sharing the video, an ex-user wrote, ‘Farmer brother gifting 400 seats to BJP in Haryana.’
In the viral video, a person is heard saying that ‘Farmers destroyed the pandal of Haryana Chief Minister.’ Taking a cue from this, Boom’s team searched YouTube with specific keywords to investigate the viral video. During the investigation, several three year old video reports were found.
In the YouTube video of Hindi news channel Aaj Tak dated January 11, 2021, it was told that in the Kisan Panchayat of Chief Minister Manohar Lal in Karnal, Punjab, farmers uprooted the stage and also destroyed the helipad.
We searched media reports of this incident. Jansatta news report said that the proposed program of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Karnal, Haryana had to be canceled because the protesters broke the stage in protest against the agricultural laws. CM was going to interact with the farmers in this Kisan Mahapanchayat program but the protesting farmers also demolished the helipad.
