According to a statement issued on Thursday from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized such items from Amazon and Flipkart’s godowns as part of action against poor goods being sold on e-commerce platforms, which were not compulsory ISI marks or which had fake ISI labels.

The statement said, “BIS on March 19 searched and seized the warehouses of Amazon Sellers Private Limited, located in the Mohan Co-operative Industrial Area of ​​Delhi. The campaign lasted for more than 15 hours and more than 3,500 products with ISI mark and fake ISI labeled were seized. Gheezers and other power equipment were seized, which included more than 3,500 products. The total estimated price is around 70 lakh rupees. “

In the second raid on Instacart Services Private Limited, a subsidiary of Flipkart, located in Trinagar, Delhi, the stock of sports footwear packed for dispatch was detected, which did not contained ISI Mark and Manufacturing Date.

According to the statement, about 590 pairs of sports footwear worth about 6 lakh rupees were seized during this operation.

In the last one month, the BIS team has taken similar action in different parts of the country. During this period, different inferior items have been seized in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Lucknow and Sriperumbudur.

These raids are part of the ongoing efforts of the Bureau of Indian Standards to implement compliance with quality standards for consumer protection.

Currently, 769 products are notified for compulsory certification by various regulators and concerned ministries of the Center.

Without a valid license or compliance certificate from BIS, it is prohibited to manufacture, import, distribution, sale, lease, lease, or display for sale without a valid license or compliance certificate.

Any person who violates the provisions of this order can be punished with imprisonment, fine or both under the BIS Act, 2016.
