Farmers will not be affected by the weather, there will be bumper production even in extreme heat

New Delhi. Wheat production is greatly affected due to changing weather cycles and high temperatures in the country. But, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR) has developed a new variety of wheat. This will solve all the problems of farmers. This improved variety of wheat, developed under the name ‘Pusa Wheat Gaurav’, is in great demand abroad. Its specialty is such that it is being liked a lot in the global market.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently dedicated 109 improved varieties of crops to the country. The ‘Pusa Wheat Gaurav’ (HI 8840) included in it has met the standards of Indian and foreign dishes. This new variety of ‘durum’ wheat has been developed in such a way that both excellent chapati and pasta can be made from it. It has been developed by Dr. Jang Bahadur Singh, head and chief scientist of ICAR’s Indore-based regional center.

Rotis are more soft
The chief scientist said that there is a problem in making chapatis from the flour of common varieties of ‘durum’ wheat but this is not a problem with ‘Pusa Wheat Gaurav’. Its flour has more water absorbing capacity than the common varieties of durum wheat. Due to this, its rotis become soft. Due to the high level of yellow pigment in it and its hard grain, excellent quality pasta can also be made from it.

Will withstand drought and heat
‘Pusa Wheat Gaurav’ contains nutrients like protein (12 percent), iron (38.5 ppm) and zinc (41.1 ppm). This variety of wheat has been developed keeping in mind the challenges of climate change and is capable of giving good yield even with less irrigation and higher temperatures than normal. The average production capacity of this variety in limited irrigation facilities is 30.2 quintals per hectare. At the same time, a maximum yield of 39.9 quintals per hectare can be obtained from it. ‘Durum’ wheat is commonly called ‘Malvi’ or ‘Kathia’ wheat.
