Responding to a question on the digital rupee, Sitharaman said that we want the RBI to design the digital rupee the way it wants, but it is quite possible that this digital currency of the central bank will be launched this year.
Increased transactions in digital currency
Addressing the conference, Sitharaman said that we see clear benefits in the proposed digital currency operated by a central bank, as currently the bulk of payments between countries, large transactions between institutions and large exchanges between central banks of each country. Transactions, all these are happening optimally with digital currency.

Meanwhile, in response to a question about regulating cryptocurrencies in the country, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that there is no preparation by the government to regulate or ban it. He said the government would talk about it after in-depth deliberations and consultations. Asked if she sees a future for crypto in India, Sitharaman said that many Indians see a lot of future in it and so I see revenue potential in it.
