new Delhi. The Delhi government has imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh on the negligence of the MCD in the East Delhi Ghazipur landfill site fire case. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the DPCC team had submitted the report yesterday but it was a small report. After this, instructions were given to submit the detail report again tomorrow. The DPCC has submitted a detailed report on the cause of the fire. In which there was a large-scale negligence in the norms of environmental protection that need to be followed by the MCD.
According to Gopal Rai, the Ghazipur landfill site caught fire due to the negligence of the MCD. The Kejriwal government has imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh. The staff-officers who were on duty at the time of the incident. In view of their negligence, instructions have been given to take action against them. The DPCC today submitted a detailed report on the cause of the fire, which showed massive negligence in environmental protection norms by the MCD.
Instead of 25, only 21 trommels were found working at the landfill site. Anti smog gun was also not working. The CPCB directed that the boundary should be made all around the landfill site. But the boundary work is not completed yet. A joint meeting of other departments including Environment Department, Revenue, PWD, DDA, MCD, Fire, NDMC has been called at Delhi Secretariat on April 4, so that such incidents can be curbed.
Apart from this, Atishi, chairman of the Environment Committee of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, said that the Environment Committee of the Delhi Assembly has summoned the EDMC commissioner to inquire as to what steps have been taken to clean the Ghazipur landfill site and prevent the fire. People are bearing the brunt of MCD’s negligence and irresponsible attitude.
In fact, due to the fire in the garbage dump, the local residents have come in trouble, due to the smoke, people have also faced breathing problem.
