Due to the strong winds of 50 km, the fire caught on even more
Ankara, July 29 (IANS) | One person has been killed and 10 others trapped in a forest fire in Turkey’s Mediterranean province of Antalya. The officials announced this on Thursday. Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said an 82-year-old man died in his burning house in the Kepejbeleni neighborhood of Akseqi district, Xinhua news agency reported.
According to news reports, 80 percent of the houses in Kepejbelny were engulfed in flames. Meanwhile, the minister said that ten people, who were believed to be restaurant owners and employees, were trapped in the Oymapinar dam area. “He has not had a life-threatening condition,” Pakdemirli said. Winds gusting up to 50 kmph were fanning the flames. An inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire, the minister said.
The fierce forest fire started at four different points in Manavghat district on Wednesday, but later spread to other areas due to strong winds, forcing 18 neighbors to move to a safer place. More than 60 people are reported to have been affected by this fire.
