IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rain in parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu from May 19 to 21. Heavy to very heavy rain has also been predicted in the South Peninsular region till May 23. Apart from this, the Meteorological Department has predicted that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into parts of the south Andaman Sea and southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands around May 19.

Light to moderate rain may occur over South Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Northeast India, North Chhattisgarh, South Konkan and Goa and South Central Maharashtra. Light rain is possible in Western Himalayas, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Southern Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The temperature may increase further in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Heat wave conditions are possible in Gujarat, Rajasthan, parts of Punjab and Haryana.
