Kerala Congress apologizes to Christian community.
Thiruvananthapuram: Recently, Congress had taken a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent meeting with Pope Francis. Congress had targeted PM Modi through a post on the social media platform X. However, after a political controversy arose in the state, the Congress party has now apologized to the Christian community. Apart from this, the Congress party has also removed the said post from its official handle on X.
Apologized by posting on X
In a fresh post on its @x handle, the Congress’ Kerala unit said it unconditionally apologised to Christians if its earlier post had caused any “emotional or psychological pain” to them. In the explanatory post, the party said the people of the state are clearly aware that it is not the Congress’ tradition to insult and disrespect any religion, religious leaders or idols. The Congress said no Congress worker would even remotely think of insulting the Pope, who is considered a God by Christians across the world.
allegations against BJP
The Congress, in the post, however, said the party does not shy away from mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who insults the country’s devotees by calling himself God. It said this way people will understand the communal mindset of BJP state president K Surendran and others who are portraying the Congress’ attempt to mock Modi’s “shameless political game” as an insult to the Pope. Taking a dig at Surendran and other BJP leaders who have stirred up a controversy over the issue, the Congress said their attempt is to “demean” Christians as a group of people who have no self-respect and who spread communal venom. “If there is real love for the Christian community, then Modi and his associates, who remained silent when their church was burnt in Manipur, must first apologise unconditionally to the Christians,” the Congress said.
Posted on the meeting of Pope Francis and PM Modi
In fact, the Kerala BJP on Sunday targeted the state Congress unit over its social media post on Modi’s meeting with Pope Francis during the G-7 summit and alleged that its ‘X’ handle appears to be run by “radical Islamists or urban Naxals”. Earlier, the Congress had posted a picture of Prime Minister Modi with the Pope on its ‘X’ handle and also made a sarcastic comment that “Finally the Pope got a chance to meet God.”
BJP had raised objection
Angered by the post, BJP state president Surendran had accused the Congress state unit of posting derogatory content against nationalist leaders on its social media handles. He accused Congress general secretary KC Venugopal of being aware of the post and questioned whether party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi endorsed it. Soon after his criticism, the Congress again responded sarcastically through its ‘X’ handle and wished Surendran and others from the “Modi ka parivar” “all the best for the next time”.
The meeting took place at the G-7 summit
Let us tell you that Prime Minister Modi on Friday invited Pope Francis to visit India and said that he admires the Pope’s commitment to serving the people. They had a warm hug at the outreach session of the G-7 summit in Italy, where they joined other world leaders to discuss artificial intelligence, energy, Africa and the Mediterranean.
