Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar on Wednesday called for global coordination to hold big tech companies like Facebook and Google accountable. He said that holding tech companies accountable does not mean that the government is suppressing their voice or taking away their freedom of expression.
Regarding the Data Protection Bill, he said that there would be some delay in implementing this bill. The government does not want to make any haste regarding this bill, so that it will have to be amended later. This statement of Rajiv Chandrashekhar has come to the fore after the government has ordered platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook to remove content and accounts in the last few quarters.

He further said that companies and the government will have to come together to curb aspects like cyber crime and cyber security and India will play a leading role in establishing a framework for cyber crime and cyber security.
Chandrashekhar said that while it is important to digitize our democracy, it is equally important to safeguard our democracy and use technology in a reliable and accountable manner. It is the duty of any government to protect the rights of users and for this the government is preparing to bring a data protection bill.
